Heathrow And M&Ms Get Nostalgic: 5 Ads You Should Watch Right Now

Every month Unruly scours the corners of the web for the funniest, saddest and weirdest ads around – then we put them into a handy list so you can catch up before the weekend.

This month’s batch includes holiday ads and sequels galore from brands like M&Ms and PlayStation.

London Heathrow Airport got everyone talking this month with a touching holiday ad designed to make you say ‘awww’, and which builds on characters and themes the airport introduced in the brand’s 2016’s Christmas ad.

Elsewhere, M&Ms went even further down the nostalgia route, with a sequel to their legendary holiday spot from over twenty years ago.

Bud Light seems to have caught sequel-itis too, with its “Pit of Misery” ad building on the success of the Dilly Dilly campaign, a social media hit from earlier in the year.

Also in the roundup is an ad from PlayStation that capitalises on the perpetual-hype-machine that is Star Wars, and a spot from ZTE Axom M starring the internet’s favorite pet – cats.

Enjoy!

5. M&Ms: A Very Yellow Sequel

The classic 1996 M&M’s commercial is back and better than ever, reuniting Saint Nick with America’s preferred confectionery mascots – the red and yellow M&Ms. Only this time, Yellow is the one saving (while simultaneously ruining?) Christmas.

4. Bud Light: Pit of Misery

Dilly Dilly! Another sequel graces our presence, except this time from Bud Light’s medieval-themed “Banquet” campaign. In “Pit of Misery” our hapless heroes get some good news when they discover that, not only is their dear friend Greg alive, but he has also brought them Bud Light. The real question is not how Greg managed to escape the Pit of Misery, but whether we’ll ever learn what Dilly Dilly actually means.

3. ZTE Axon M: Business Cat

There’s no such thing as too many cat videos and, thanks to ZTE, we can now watch cat videos with TWO screens. In this playful 30 second ad, we get to see what a little orange cat would do with dual screens. Spoiler alert: one is for business and the other is for cat videos.

2. PlayStation: Battlefront II

The force is strong with this one. In this exciting ad from PlayStation, we follow a traditional boy-meets-girl story over the years, until our couple end up inside a video game! Keeping the spirit of Star Wars alive, this video is sure to take you on a 1:45 journey to a galaxy far far away.

1. London Heathrow Airport: #HeathrowBears

Expanding on its surprise success from last year, Heathrow Airport’s latest ad expands on the story of Doris and Edward Bair and their 50 year love story. This sweet love affair begins on a plane at Heathrow, as most bear romances typically do.
