Step aside John Lewis’s Old Man On The Moon – there’s a new pensioner in town.
A commercial for Edeka, a German supermarket chain, has dethroned John Lewis at the top of the Christmas ad pile in just 1 week – a staggering feat considering John Lewis’ ad is always thought by many to be the biggest and best advertising offering over the festive period.
The ad has been shared an astonishing 2.39M times to date, eclipsing John Lewis’ “#ManOnTheMoon” campaign, which currently stands in 2nd place with 1.3M shares. Sainsbury’s feline festive offering, starring Mog the Cat, currently rests in 3rd place, with 917K shares.
Get your tissues ready, this is a great example of sad-vertising, a hot trend in advertising over the past few years.
