Death Clocks And Recycled Socks: 5 Ads You Should Watch Right Now
Clocks that tell you when you’ll die, rugby stars in notorious gangs and breaking every fashion rule in the book. It could only be AdLand!
But which are the must-see ads over the last seven days? Well, after a week watching the best (and worst) video advertisements on the net, we’ve picked the five essential ones to watch so you can spend the rest of your time enjoying the, hopefully sunny, weekend.
So without further ado, here is our weekly round-up of the five ads you should watch right now.
Enjoy and have a great weekend
5. Mount Pleasant Group Cemeteries and Funeral Centres – Quitbit
Barely a day goes by that you don’t hear about a new app that solves a problem you never knew we had. So, you could be very well forgiven if you thought this ad was real (judging by the comments on YouTube, you certainly wouldn’t be alone).
The morbid spot introduces Quitbit, a wearable device that counts down the days until you die in a bid to make the viewer aware their date could be fast approaching and to make personal funeral arrangements.
Think Justin Timberlake’s movie “In Time” except a little more grim and without the eye-candy.
4. Sanctuary Spa – Relax, Breathe & #LetGo
Sanctuary Spa is on a mission to get women to relax, breathe and let go. According to their research, 80% of women say that they put too much pressure on themselves to be perfect. That’s a frightening statistic and no doubt enhanced by a world of narcissistic Kardashian’s on Instagram.
The beauty brand has created this touching video where elderly ladies give advice to their younger selves. It serves as a beautiful reminder to live in the moment and enjoy the now.
Here, here!
3. Beats – Serena Williams – Rise
Having just beat her equally talented sister Venus to reach the US Open semi-finals this week, it’s hard to think of Serena Williams having an off-day. She’s simply unstoppable.
However, despite her otherworldly skills and physique, the tennis superstar reminds us in this Beats ad that she is in fact human and struggles with her own insecurities and being under the scrutiny of media.
The short film shows that at the end of the day, haters gonna hate and you just have to rise through.
2. H&M – Close the Loop
I cannot deal with the level of sartorial sass in H&M’s latest spot. The fashion retailer has gone badass and broken all the fashion rules in the book to prove that there is only one that truly matters: “recycle your clothes“.
The ad, which features ‘rule-breakers’ Iggy Pop, Tess Holliday and Pardeep Singh, highlights H&M’s sustainable fashion mission to reduce the impact of fast-fashion on the planet. With clothes recycling points in over 3,300 of their stores, there’s absolutely no excuse to not get involved.
So, get ready to throw out your Vogues – not your brogues!
1. Guinness – The Right Path
Guinness has released a beautifully shot series of poignant films which tell the story of rugby stars who have shown massive displays of courage and resilience off the pitch.
In the first video, Wales legend Gareth Thomas discusses how his biggest fears were not the opposition but the fear of rejection because of his sexuality.
In second film (above), former South Africa winger Ashwin Willemse talks about how he defied circumstances by choosing rugby over a notorious gang in his native Cape Town.
Both amazing stories finish on an uplifting note as we discover how the comradery and support of their rugby teams helped them through their lowest points and defy the odds.
