Live Long & Prosper! A Tribute To Leonard Nimoy
Star Trek fans around the globe last week mourned the death of Leonard Nimoy.
The American actor (as well as director, poet, photographer, sing/songwriter) – most famous for role as Spock in the popular sci-fi TV series and film franchise – passed away last Friday at the age of 83. He was buried on Sunday.
Recreating his role as recently as 2013 for the movie reboot Star Trek Into Darkness, there’s little doubt that Nimoy created one of the most popular and famous TV characters of all time.
Through his long career, Nimoy was no stranger to the advertising community either, often lending his famous face and pointy ears to various brands, ranging from this German Volkswagen ad from 2014 to this throwback from 1985 for Western Airlines, both also featuring William Shatner.
But the one video that seems to be resonating most with viewers this week as they celebrate Nimoy’s legacy is this 2013 spot he made for Audi with Zachary Quinto, who now dons the famous ears as Nimoy’s Spock successor.
The ad is the third most shared ad this week, according to the Unruly Viral Video Chart, after attracting 60,725 shares over the last seven days.
The video, which has a run time of almost 3 minutes, features Quinto and Nimoy trying to outdo each other.
While Quinto demonstrates the features of his new Audi S7 (alongside highly dramatic and futuristic music), Nimoy struggles with his older model, bringing Spock – albeit an older, more suburban version – into the role. No spoilers here, you’ll have to watch for yourself to see the ending.
So in honor of the late, great Mr. Nimoy, we have created a chart of the top five most shared Nimoy videos.
