It’s that time of year again. More than 160,000 people are currently ascending upon Las Vegas for all things consumer tech. That’s right, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) kicks off today. Last year, the show saw more than 20,000 product announcements, close to 4,000 official exhibitors from more than 140 countries.
As everyone scours to find a fashionable wearable or their very own self-driving car, we took a look at the most shared videos from consumer technology brands, according to the Unruly Viral Video Chart.
Drawing on a wide range of psychological responses – including exhilaration, awe, warmth, sadness and knowledge – and social motivations – including hared passion, kudos – coolhunter, social utility, zeitgeist, self expression – consumer tech brands use a great variety of devices to get their videos watched and shared.
Samsung dominates the list of the most shared consumer technology videos of 2014. The electronics company made its way into the top shared list of consumer tech brands most frequently with a very diversified approach to its content strategy.

Despite not being an official World Cup sponsor, the electronics company topped the list with one of the most shared videos from last year’s month-long championship. The video earned 538,465 shares, with its futuristic world domination campaign featuring some of the world’s best players trying to save planet Earth.
Samsung released a number of seemingly basic product tutorials for its latest products, including these two videos which received 404,378 and 394,674 shares respectively. Essentially an owner’s manual through video, the company released these lengthy videos – some close to 10 minutes long! – with product highlights and offerings. In 2014, the company also released videos for its Gear2 and GearFit products, which received 137,967 shares.
Proving it can also show an emotional side, the company created this spot for the Thai market with a heartwarming story of friendship, which received 329,376 shares.

GoPro is no stranger to creating highly shareable content – its GoPro: Lions – The New Endangered Species? video from 2013 still holds the spot as most shared consumer tech video this year, despite being released more than a year ago! To announce its newest product, the company release this video filled with exhilarating shots from music festivals, to adrenaline junkies to mother Earth to race cars, all shot on its HERO4 camera.
