Tech Titans Clash At Tech City’s Ping Pong Fight Club

If Ping Pong Fight Club is anything like the movie (and book) which inspired it, then we are already breaking rules 1,2 and 3.

But how can we not talk about Ping Pong Fight Club? Set in the heart of Tech City, just off Brick Lane, employees from some of the biggest tech companies in London battled it out the only way they know how – through their love of wiff-waff.

Crossing paddles in front of a baying crowd of more than 1,000 people were 64 sultans of ping from 16 different firms, including Facebook, Moshi Monsters, Decoded, lastfm, Spotify and, of course, Unruly.

A lot of Meantime drinks were guzzled, a lot of faces were painted, a lot of headbands were worn. One company even hired a troupe of cheerleaders to cheer them on.
But – to lend from another famous film – there could only be one, this year’s title being taken by Funding Circle after a tense final against Facebook.

Unruly quartet ‘Awesome’ Alex Ryan, ‘Come on‘ Tim Pickles, James ‘Welsh Wizard’ Hughes and ‘Fast’ Eddie Tomalin all performed admirably against some serious competition, with Tim, shouted on by some enthusiastic Unruly support, managing to get into the last 16.
All in all, a great night was had by all. Congratulations to the organisers for a fantastic event.
