PS4 V XBox One: Sony Dominating Social Video Battle

The battle over the next generation of gaming consoles has not started in earnest yet, but already it looks like Sony has a clear lead over its rival Microsoft.

That’s according to our new infographic (below), which looks at which brands are dominating the key social video battles in consumer tech in the lead-up to the festive season. Neither Sony’s PS4 and Microsoft’s XBox One are due to be released until late November, but it looks like the latest edition of the Playstation already has a clear edge.

It found that nine of every 10 shares on Facebook, Twitter and the blogosphere were for the PS4, thanks in part to the controversy surrounding Xbox One’s sharing policy, plus some brilliant real-time marketing by Sony. Videos for the PS4 have also generated 91% of the total number of views on YouTube.

Other key stats from the infographic include:

  • Newer is not always better – Apple ads attracted less than 10% of smartphone video shares;
  • Grand Theft Auto steals march on rivals – Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V videos have attracted the most buzz among the big games due to be launched this year, attracting 48% of the video shares;
  • Surface rises to the top – Microsoft’s Surface had the two most shared tablet ads of all time, ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10.1, which came in third.

The inforgraphic itself is after the jump.
