The #StartUp Show: Unruly Co-Founder Blabs To The Hangout, Plaque Checker And Mums Make Lists
Ever heard of Blab? Founded by Michael and Xochi Birch, the new video app is currently in beta mode and is fast becoming the next big thing.
And for good reason. It’s an awesome, new live-streaming video app that’s a great way to reach and engage audiences.
So here’s the low-down on the newest up-and-coming app…
Who started it?: Birch and his wife – founders of back-in-the-day social network Bebo – launched Blab in a bid to bring the new ‘Bebo’ back to life.
What is it?: Blab is a live streaming app where hosts take a pew at their desktop or mobile in their home / office environment and invite other guests, who enter the forum to participate. Up to four people can video chat simultaneously, while viewers can comment and ask live questions during the broadcast.
When?: Viewers can subscribe and listen to sessions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Where?: Hosts and viewers can join from all over the world. All you need is an internet connection and a webcam with a microphone if you’re hosting and you’re good to go
Why is it so big?: It’s the first live streaming app that lets users host their own video show for groups and enables four people discuss a topic together while being in different locations.
How do I sign up?: All you need to sign up is a Twitter account. Just login with and you’re ready to start Blabbing. Once you’re on the platform, you can host your own Blab, listen in on other users’ Blabs, sign up to future Blabs and follow users to receive notifications on their Blabs
Unruly experimented with its first-ever Blab session this week as we launched our new mini-series, The #StartUp Show, which will see Unruly co-founder and co-CEO Sarah Wood talk and debate with startups, entrepreneurs and academics. The goal of the show is to discuss various topics, including how academia and the tech ecosystem can support startups, and give advice to anyone setting up their own business.
So, here’s a recording of Unruly’s first Blab. Sarah’s inspirational co-hosts for our first Blab are:
Lotta Olsson, Community Manager from The Hangout, which is City University London’s incubation space. Students and recent graduates can apply to get access to free desk space and support to develop their business ideas.
Hawaa Budraa, Co-Founder from Plaque Checker, the mobile app that makes it possible for you to beautify your smile right from home.
Luci McQuitty Hindmarsh, Founder from Mums Make Lists, a blog with simple tips for busy mums that have been tried and tested by busy mums.
Stay tuned for our next session in the series, which will be on Wednesday, 3rd February at 5.30pm GMT, with Mike Southon from The Beermat Entrepreneur. Sign up here.
