To make sure you stay on top of all the latest Adland trends, Unruly scours the web every Friday for the greatest examples of online video advertising and brings them together into one handy list.
This week’s ads couldn’t be more varied – we’ve got parenting tips from Kraft, a tear-jerking epic from Volkswagen, and a profound and unsettling ad from Royal Jordanian.
Elsewhere on the list, Apple returns with a quietly beautiful spot showing off the iPhone 7 which follows a young couple as they travel around unnaturally empty streets in Shanghai.
Rounding out our selection is a new ad from M&S, which is every bit as fun as it is inspiring.
So without further ado, enjoy!
5. Kraft Mac & Cheese – Swear Like A Mother
This funny, endearing ad from Kraft Mac & Cheese wants to let parents know that nobody’s perfect – and that’s OK. It features Melissa Mohr Ph.D, a ‘swearing expert’, offering up some charming alternatives for those moments you have an urge to use less-than-appropriate language while speaking with your kids.
4. Volkswagen – America
Volkswagen’s ‘America’ is a heart-wrenching story of family, loss and the great American road trip – all condensed into 90 seconds. The ad is unabashedly emotional, and its tale of family coming together to honour a grandparent’s last wish is full of moving moments and stunning imagery.
3. Royal Jordanian – Are you afraid of flying?
This striking ad from airline Royal Jordanian is a powerful reminder of the innocuous discrimination many people experience while flying. The spot itself is simple, but sinister, as it drifts between the faces of various passengers as they stare at our protagonist.
2. Apple – The City
In the vein of Bose’s impressive London-based ad from last year, this ad from Apple shows us the fantasy of having a whole city to yourself. It follows a young couple as they hop and skip their way through a deserted Shanghai – taking very nice photos on their iPhone 7.
1. Marks & Spencer – Spend It Well
M&S’s triumphant new ad ‘Spend It Well’ is an energetic, empowering and fun campaign that shows real women from all walks of life taking control of their situations and saying no to the things holding them back. It’s a must-watch!
