adidas Breaks The Mould, Sainsbury’s Gets Us Food Dancing: 5 Ads You Should Watch Right Now
January is most certainly upon us. Thankfully, Unruly is here to help you beat back the cold with 5 ads you can bundle up on the sofa and watch.
This week’s selection features funny spots from Old Spice and Snickers, and a recognisably stylish spot from Apple showing off its wireless AirPods. Elsewhere on the list is a musical spot from Sainsbury’s that aims to get people dancing with the hashtag #FoodDance. It’s an engaging ad and a new kind of creative for the supermarket.
Finally, we’ve got a really interesting and compelling ad from adidas featuring renaissance-inspired imagery, Frank Sinatra, and some famous faces.
So without further ado, enjoy!
5. Old Spice – Radio Daze
Old Spice has a well-earned reputation for tongue-in-cheek comedy spots. The brand’s latest batch of ads are somewhat simpler, although just as weird. The premise for this 15-second video is simple: the deodorant is so good it’ll make your underarms a desert – with plenty jokes stemming from imagining the residents of this dustbowl.
4. Snickers – The Warning
‘The Warning’ is a light-hearted and funny spot that will put a smile on your face, and probably make you question the choices you make when you’re craving a snack.
3. Apple – Stroll
Apple might have got some flack after the initial announcement of its wireless headphones – Air Pods – but this latest spot is full of the brand’s signature style and cleverly drives home the idea that now, you can go anywhere. The ad’s clever special effects and great soundtrack mean it’s definitely Apple’s first big hit of the year.
2. Sainsbury’s – Food Dancing (Yum Yum Yum)
Sainsbury’s surprised everyone this week with a fast-paced ad that was the polar opposite of its warm and fuzzy Christmas spot. The ad, called Yum Yum Yum (or #FoodDancing if you prefer), features ‘real people’ shuffling their feet while in the kitchen – all while a surprisingly catchy original song plays. The ad has eye-catching visuals, thanks to its black and white palette contrasting with greens and the Sainsbury’s orange. It’s just the thing to get you pumped for the new year.
1. adidas Originals – Original is never finished
This 90-second spot from adidas marks the beginning of a new campaign for their Originals line – and by the looks of it, we’re in for a treat. The ad features familiar faces in unfamiliar situations, and is full of so much striking imagery, it’s hard to know where to start. From the literal Snoop Dogg, to the millennial take on the Birth of Venus – this is an ad you should not miss.
